History of Kandy

Kandy lies at an altitude of 488.6 metres above sea level in the centre of Sri Lanka.
This city was the last kingdom in Sri Lanka.This kingdom was founded by King Vimaladarmasuriya in 1592 and an end when the British took captive its last King Sri Vikrama Rajasinghe.The name “Kandy” was founded by Portuguese calling the sinhala word “Candea”.At the last stage this city is called as “Mahanuwara”.Nowadays also use it.
